A schematic diagram of a Gecko SMA-HR accelerograph might include:
Sensor Unit (Accelerometer): The core of the accelerograph, capable of detecting acceleration in one or more directions. It converts the physical motion into an electrical signal proportional to the acceleration and seismic alarm
Data Logger: This component records the electrical signals from the accelerometer. It has the capacity to store a large amount of data, often including time stamps for each measurement.
Power Supply: Typically, a battery or a connection to an external power source. Advanced models might also include solar panels for remote operation.
Processor (CPU): Manages the operation of the accelerograph, including data collection, processing, and storage. It might also handle communication with external devices or networks. Read More
Communication Interface: Allows for the retrieval of data from the accelerograph. This could be through wired connections like USB or Ethernet, or wireless methods such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or cellular networks.
Housing and Mounting Mechanism: Protects the internal components from environmental conditions and ensures that the accelerograph is securely and stably mounted to record accurate measurements.
GPS Module: Provides precise time and location information, ensuring that data from the accelerograph can be accurately correlated with other seismic data. External Ports and Indicators: For maintenance, configuration, and status checking. This might include LED indicators, switches, and ports for external sensors or power sources. Shock

preparedness. Through
workshops, school programs, and online resources, we educate the public on
understanding earthquake magnitude, emergency preparedness, and building resilient communities.
Using data from seismic accelerographs, areas are classified into zones with varying levels of seismic hazard. This microzonation supports informed decision-making regarding building codes, construction practices, and urban development.
Buildings equipped with seismic accelerographs can have their response to seismic events monitored in real-time. This allows for the assessment of a building’s behavior under actual earthquake conditions, providing valuable data on its performance and potential vulnerabilities
Building officials can make use of the accurate information gathered by seismic surveillance in order to:
Safeguard people, important equipment, and other resources inside a building while avoiding unneeded evacuations.
Make use of the data that earthquake seismic alarm are gathering in real time to determine whether the building’s structural soundness permits its reoccupation.
Encourage the construction of new buildings while keeping safety regulations in mind. This includes installing seismic alerts.
When there is different amounts of ground movement, earthquake seismic alarm can sound an exterior alarm and cut off some utility services inside the structure, which helps people get out of the building quickly and protects valuables.
Earthquake Monitoring and Structural Health Evaluation this system involves instruments that measure earthquake motion in real time. These measurements provide valuable data for understanding ground movement during an earthquake. The system also monitors the structural health of a building, providing insights into its ability to withstand seismic forces.
A seismic accelerograph is a type of instrumentation used to measure and record the acceleration of the ground during an earthquake. Unlike a seismometer, which primarily records the velocity of ground movements, an accelerograph focuses on capturing the acceleration forces that occur. These instruments are crucial for understanding the intensity and characteristics of seismic events, especially in areas prone to earthquakes magnitude.

Secure the structural health integrity of your building with an Earthquake Recording Instrument
Building owners are now required to comply to the minimum standard DPWH regulation specifications stated in DPWH’s Guidelines and Implementing Rules on Earthquake Recording Instrumentation (ERI), which was mandated by NBCDO Memorandum Circular No. 1, Series of 2015.
Read MoreThe installation of the Earthquake Recording Instrumentation (ERI) shall be part of the requirements for the Annual Certificate of Inspections for existing buildings and as a pre-condition for the issuance of Certificate of Occupancy for new buildings.
Compliance on the provisions is under the office of the local Building Officials and City/Municipal Engineer who are required by DPWH requirement to submit quarterly DPWH compliance report of the buildings under their respective areas of jurisdiction.

Disaster preparedness is what we need to safely secure lives and prevent economic loss.
The Philippines is prone to natural disaster, especially earthquakes, thus, the government implemented another security measures by adding accelerograph as mandatory building security (aside from FDAS and CCTV) for every business who have buildings at least 50 meters in height before they grant them a business permit for the building safety .
Building official impose regulations on the construction of new building structures and the adaptation of existing ones to incorporate the latest in building technology. The installation of seismic accelerographs in buildings frequented by large numbers of people is primarily aimed at safeguarding lives, securing properties, and ensuring orderly conduct during earthquakes. Seismic accelerographs play a critical role in achieving these objectives through four main functions:

For public safety, the government mandates the use of Earthquake Monitoring Equipment (EME) to protect life and prevent financial damage. As per DPWH guidelines, buildings must have at least three accelerographs installed, positioned at the ground floor or lowest basement, a middle floor, and the top floor below the roof.
1.High rise buildings above fifty meters, encompassing offices, living complexes, malls, hotels, retail hubs, storage spaces, healthcare centers, schools, airports, and industrial sites/facilities.
2.Hospital buildings standing three stories or more, equipped with no less than 50 beds.
3.Learning facilities at least three stories tall, featuring at least 20 classrooms.
4.Business premises accommodating a minimum of 1000 occupants.
5.Manufacturing edifices designed to hold a minimum of 1000 workers
Seismic accelerographs require routine maintenance to function at their best. A yearly calibration test, a one-year service interval, and making sure that the equipment’s obsolescence doesn’t impair its functionality over a ten-year period are all included in the maintenance. Building owners are in charge of maintaining and servicing the system in accordance with the requirements, and providers are required to guarantee that the system will continue to function for at least 10 years. Maintaining seismic accelerographs regularly is vital for their optimal operation. Yearly calibration tests and servicing within every year’s window are necessary. Additionally, obsolescence shouldn’t impair the device’s functioning for a decade. Providers must guarantee the system’s serviceability for at least ten years, while building owners have the responsibility to maintain and service the system according to guidelines.

Under specific earthquake design categories (Seismic Design Categories or SDCs), buildings structure with deep foundation systems, such as pile caps or caissons, must have their foundations connected with ties. This helps the foundation system work as one unit, which is essential for the stability of the structure during an earthquake.
